Jean Laffite Laffite,
Jean (circa 1780-c. 1826), in U.S.
history, a Gulf coast pirate who helped defend New Orleans against
the British in the War of 1812. Laffite immigrated to New Orleans
where he established a pirate base at Barataria in the marshes south of the
