Louisiana's Acadian Homes This book has 70 full page color pictures and history of 68 Acadian and Creole style homes in South Louisiana. Some of these homes were built more than 200 years ago. Included in this book, is a mini history of the Acadian exile in 1755, as well as brief biographies of the Acadian descendents who built these homes. One of the oldest homes featured in this book was built before 1791 and belonged to an Indian woman who was an ex-slave. The house was left to her by her mulatto master. Her will, written for her by the commandant of the Opelousas Post in 1791, was entirely in old French. All details of this document have been verified through the census and civil records.
